Pool began as a Risley tradition over spring break in 1980 by an RA who couldn't go to Florida,
so she decided to bring Florida to Ithaca in the form of a kiddie pool in CLR. Since then however,
it has been moved outside to the back courtyard.
Modern Day
Pool happens a few times a semester, generally on the warmer sides,
or whenever the person who generally "leads" pool feels like it. One pool you can
always count on however is Rocky Pool, held after Risley's annual production
of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Another aspect that pools may have is a theme or twist,
usually decided just before filling begins. These have included
bubble pool (where someone brings shampoo, body wash, or bubble bath),
apple pool (in honor of Ithaca's annual Apple Fest in the fall), and
hush pool (the pool held the week after someone had decided to skip
calling the RA on call and instead call CUPD for a noise complaint. Thanks...)
Be sure to pay attention to the Cardinal Rules of Pool.
Cardinal Rules of Pool
Pool is run according to four cardinal rules, known as the Cardinal
Rules of Pool. There are also a few other unwritten rules like don't
confirm the existence of pool to the RAs or RHD.
You are free to wear as little or as much clothing as you wish.
No pressure either way.
No food, drink, or drugs in pool unless there is enough for everyone
and everyone wants some.
No bodily fluids. Unless there's enough for everyone and everyone
wants some.
No uneccesary splashing. Neccesary splashing however it totally fine
and defined as splashing in response to uneccesary splashing or a bad pun
or when a splash is requested by a member of pool in which case only
the requesting member may be splashed.
